Ship: Kitty/Yuri
Word Count: 937

----------------

“Q!” Kitty screams at the top of her lungs. There’s the sound of boxes falling in the distance. “IT’S AN EMERGENCY!”

Q comes barreling out of the bedroom and sticks the landing on Minho’s new shipment of Ultra-Rare-Hygienic-Made-From-Fairy-Tears-Probably skincare products. Thank god she won’t be around for the aftermath.

“Good morning, Kitty,” Q says as the afternoon sun beats down on him through the window. His pants are on backwards and he looks like he hasn’t slept in days. “To what do I owe the pleasure?”

Kitty screams because she thinks that’s the best way to express the news. Q jumps a foot in the air in response.

“Yuri asked me out!” she shrieks.

“The two of you look cute together. I think you should go for it.”

“That’s not what I meant!”

“My point still stands. Okay, slow down.” Q mimics deep breaths like they’re in a grade-school level health class. Kitty doesn’t like the sarcasm but appreciates the gesture. “Start from the beginning. Tell me what happened.”

“I-I don’t know,” she replies, rolling her wrist. “We were just talking and I think I told her she was pretty or something–I mean, she’s always pretty, it’s like saying the grass is green or the sky is blue, did you know the other day–”

Kitty.

“Right. Staying on track! I don’t know, it was all out of the blue and then she laughed and she looked at me and it was like one of those slo-mo shots in a romcom and she asked if I wanted to go out with her and I asked her where and then she said no, silly, do you want to be my girlfriend and then I panicked.”

Q closes his eyes slowly like he’s been slapped across the face.

“Okay, that was a lot but that’s good! When did this happen? And where?”

Kitty glances quickly at the door. Q groans and slaps one hand over his forehead.

“Kitty, you didn’t.

She gives a garbled noise of protest in response.

“I’m sorry, I don’t speak Ukrainian. What I’m sure you’re trying to say though is that you definitely did not slam the door in Yuri’s face after she confessed to you–especially after I had to struggle through a year of watching you hopelessly pine, right?”

“Actually, I asked her for 1-3 business days to think about it.”

KITTY!

“Can’t you frame it in a more positive light?” she hisses. Now that Q’s pointed out the door, she’s hyper-aware of it–or more accurately, what’s behind it.

“There is no light that can save this situation!” Q yells back. Wonderful, the whole floor’s probably heard the news by now. Kitty Song Covey is a bisexual disaster who doesn’t have a single thing right in her life–not her grades, not her understanding of her culture and definitely not her love life.

“It’s fine.” Q’s pacing now and it’s not a good pacing. It’s more of an anxious stomping that looks like it’s gonna leave dents in the carpet. “It’s fine! Yuri’s spent a year with you. She knows what you’re like and she still asked you out, which means she likes you for you and I’m sure that slamming a door in her face won’t change that.” They both stare at the dorm door that suddenly looks like it’s looming over the room. “I hope.”

“Okay, moving on. Why didn’t you say yes? You’re clearly crazy about Yuri. And Yuri’s apparently just as crazy about you.”

“I don’t know, Q.” Kitty pushes aside a notebook to make room for her to sit on the counter. It’s probably Minho’s. It makes her feel less bad about the way it falls into the sink. “It’s been a year and I still don’t know if I’m gay or bi or pan or… something else entirely!” Kitty slaps a fat stack of paper on the dining table for emphasis–a physical copy of the Lesbian Masterdoc, courtesy of one crappy KISS Academy printer. “I don’t even know if I like girls! I mean, Yuri’s the only girl that I’ve ever felt like this about… I think?”

Q sticks one hand out into the Kitty-tornado swirling around him.

“Kitty, understanding your sexuality is a process. It’s not always a static thing–sometimes things happen and you learn something new about yourself. And sometimes, the thing you discover at the end of researching all these labels is that you don’t actually like any of them! And that’s totally fine. You don’t need every detail about yourself figured out before you jump into a relationship.”

Kitty blinks up at him wordlessly.

“Kitty, do you like Yuri?” Q asks, and it’s really more of a formality than anything. Kitty nods and thinks it doesn’t even come close to expressing her affection. “Then that’s really all you need.”

“Okay,” Kitty says as she pushes herself off the counter. She’s hopping from foot-to-foot like one of those boxers warming up in the ring before the fight. Q’s in the coach’s corner, hyping her up. “Okay, I can do this!”

Kitty flings open the door to a startled Yuri, still leaning against the wall from where Kitty left her 20 minutes ago.

“Yes, I’ll marry you! Ah, wait, no I meant I’ll go out with you! Please let me be your girlfriend, I promise I won’t mess up this much!” She’s half-sobbing by the end and Yuri nearly doubles over from laughter.

“Is she always like this?” she asks Q.

“You know it.”

“I do.” Yuri looks up at her and there’s that smile again that makes the world melt away. “It’s what I like about her.”

a little polyamory, as a treat

Fandom: Genshin Impact
Pairing: Clorinde x Furina (x Navia)
WC: 603

“If you don't mind me asking,” Furina begins, hesitating. Under the table, she squeezes Clorinde's knee to pluck up her courage. “Since we ran into each other by coincidence like this, um...”

“The two of you look cute together. I think you should go for it,” Navia announces cheerfully, then takes another sip of her green tea, pinkie extended.

“That’s not what I meant!” Furina groans as she buries her blushing face in her hands.

Clorinde pats Furina sympathetically on the back before shooting Navia a dirty look.

Navia tips her sunglasses down to wink at both of her friends, undeterred. “My point still stands.”

Shaded beneath the terraced slopes of Chenyu Vale's Qiaoying Village, the Fontainian visitors gather for refreshments around an outdoor table on the stone teahouse patio. It's a quaint little farming village built on the banks of the river that doesn't see many tourists, other than those who cross the border from Fontaine in search of quietude.

For her first-ever excursion out of the nation, this place is absolutely magical. The verdant Mt. Yaojun rises into a sea of clouds in the distance, as majestic and beautiful as any painted scroll Furina has ever seen. To Furina's sheer delight, the resident mountain goats boldly wander down from the foothills into the village proper, unafraid of humans, dogs, or sovereign dragons. She's fervently wishing for the chance to pet one before their trip concludes.

As Navia beckons over the proprietor and begins an animated, if one-sided, conversation about shipping costs on bulk tea leaf purchases, Furina peeks through her fingers to steal a glimpse at Clorinde.

Clorinde remains as cool and unflappable as always, gazing silently at the far-off peak of the mountain. Furina can't imagine what thoughts must be running through her head at this moment. Perhaps she's annoyed that she left Fontaine on official business only to run into Furina sightseeing for Lantern Rite. Clorinde might feel obligated to remain at Furina's side now, when she's really yearning to explore on her own.

Or – Does she think Furina is a coward for failing once more to ask their mutual friend about joining their relationship? By now, Clorinde must regret agreeing to date Furina at all.

Furina wilts in her chair, guilt curdling in her stomach, heavier than the dense tea cakes she partook in too many of. She's lost her appetite for sweets.

Clorinde's keen gaze flicks over Furina's dejected posture, lingering on the unfinished plate of desserts, before a small frown creases her brow. She clears her throat, drawing both Furina and Navia's attention.

“Navia,” Clorinde deadpans, soft but stern. “Stop teasing her. I know you're not as oblivious as you pretend to be.”

Navia blinks, then leans over the table to clasp Furina's hands, eyes bright with earnest apology. “Oh, darling, I didn't mean to actually upset you! I know you two are already together. I was just having a bit of fun at your expense, which is dreadful of me, really.”

“And?”

Clorinde crosses her arms. Her tone brooks no argument. Navia grins crookedly, ducking her head in light embarrassment.

And, I have an inkling of what you actually wanted to ask me, and the answer is an enthusiastic yes, if you'll still have me.”

Furina sputters in disbelief, looking back and forth between Navia and Clorinde, and finding nothing worthwhile to say.

Navia presses a kiss to Furina's knuckles, then winks. Clorinde nods once in curt satisfaction, then returns to her tea.

Furina just buries her flustered face in her hands once more, this time to conceal her wobbly, wet-eyed smile of relief.

I did not have a poly situation in mind when I wrote this prompt but I love that you took it in that direction. It works perfectly!

pairing: winter/cinder

fandom: RWBY

characters: winter schnee, cinder fall, clover ebi but wildly out of character, mentioned penny polendina

word count: 857

extra tags: spy x family au but i mercilessly butcher the lore

Winter tugs at the front of her jacket, smoothing down imaginary wrinkles. She hasn’t been able to keep her hands still for hours, which is probably a bad sign. “We’ll be fine.”

Cinder makes a face. “I know we will.”

“So don’t panic.”

“I’m the furthest I could possibly get from panic right now.”

“Penny will be fine.”

“Penny is the smartest person I’ve ever met,” Cinder says calmly. Weird, since she’s never struck Winter as a particularly calm person. “What’s the worst that can happen?”

“Oh, I can think of several things.” Starting with failure and ending with explosions. “How long have we got now?”

Cinder glances up at the sky, blinking a little. “About six minutes.”

“How did you get that from looking at the sky?”

She points vaguely upwards, shrugging. “Sunset’s in six minutes, isn’t it? They time things weird here.”

They do. Winter looks away from her, down through the gates to the entrance hall they weren’t allowed to stand inside. Somewhere in there, Penny is leaving the test hall, probably minus a few pencils. She’s trying not to be too neurotic about it, but the examiner did say to expect the kids back at sunset, so here they are.

It’s still weird to think of Penny as her daughter, even if it’s just in a legal sense. She doesn’t even know where Atlesian intelligence got her from.

“There we go,” Cinder says.

“Hm?”

It still hurts, kind of, to look directly at her. She’s disarmingly beautiful. “You’re off in your own head again.” Cinder leans over and flicks her forehead gently, grinning. “You get jumpy when you think too much.”

“I do not,” she says pointedly.

Something moves in the street behind them and she jolts. Cinder bursts into laughter. “You were saying?”

Winter glances over her shoulder anyway, just to be sure, and jolts again. “Oh, that’s — my coworker. Don’t look.”

Obviously, Cinder looks, and sucks a breath in between her teeth when she realises he’s looking back. “Jesus Christ, why’s he coming to talk to us?”

“Because he’s trying to be sociable,” she mutters, “you should try it sometime.”

“Says you,” Cinder mutters back, elbowing her. It doesn’t connect, because Winter is already turning around to greet him.

Clover Ebi is a good man, really. Even if he doesn’t entirely understand why Winter does the things she does. He’s happy to stand with them and talk for a little while, and it’s a welcome distraction from the particularly anxious kind of waiting she’s been perfecting for the past hour. She likes him well enough.

Cinder, on the other hand, thoroughly and obviously despises him.

“So, married, huh?” he says, raising his eyebrows. He’s not even trying to be subtle about it, which Winter doesn’t appreciate. She can practically hear him saying Was this necessary for your mission, really? and I mean, she’s gorgeous, obviously, but a little too murderous to be believable as a mother, don’t you think? and —

Cinder tugs hard at her waist, pulling their bodies flush together. “Married,” she says snippily. “Six months, two weeks and three days.”

Clover glances between them, grinning. “And you’re hanging around outside the college?”

Winter rolls her eyes. “Yes, for the mission.”

Cinder elbows her hard. It connects this time.

She rolls her eyes again, this time in her direction. “Don’t panic, he knows.”

“Knows,” Cinder says. Her voice seems to have pitched itself up several octaves. “Oh, okay. Knows.”

“We were in training together,” Clover adds brightly. “She was the best in her field, of course. Are you also — ?”

“No, she’s just — particularly sharp,” Winter mutters.

His eyebrows shoot up, but he doesn’t say anything. Which is handy, because it’s a pretty good sign that he won’t go telling her superiors about it. He knows her well enough to trust the decisions she makes. “So. Not married?”

“We’re raising a kid together,” Cinder says defensively. “And, I mean. We have the legal papers to prove it.”

“Penny?” he guesses.

“Penny,” Winter says. “She’s a good kid.”

“She’s your sister’s age, isn’t she?”

“A year younger. The — agency put her in my care.” I take my job very seriously, she doesn’t say. Even if I’d rather be her aunt. Or something significantly more believable.

He glances between them again, eyes widening like he’s just figured something out, and Winter thinks, Oh no. “You’re together?”

Cinder frowns at him. “We’re raising a kid.”

“We’re her legal guardians, we live together, I have a contractual obligation to carry out a mission pertaining to the safety of the entire country,” Winter says shortly.

“Aww, well. The two of you look cute together. I think you should go for it.”

“That’s not what I meant,” Cinder snaps.

He spreads his hands wide, smiling innocently. “My point still stands.”

“Stop trying to set me up with every single woman you see me standing next to,” Winter says, grabbing Cinder’s wrist. “I’m going to collect my daughter from her exam now.”

His laughter follows her through the gates and all the way down to the entrance hall. Cinder mutters curses under her breath for the entire walk.
